FAMILY TREE - The family of Jesus - Judah

Genesis 49:8-11 | “Judah, your brothers will praise you.
You will grasp your enemies by the neck. All your relatives will bow before you. Judah, my son, is a young lion that has finished eating its prey. Like a lion he crouches and lies down; like a lioness—who dares to rouse him? The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the ruler’s staff from his descendants, until the coming of the one to whom it belongs, the one whom all nations will honor. He ties his foal to a grapevine, the colt of his donkey to a choice vine. He washes his clothes in wine, his robes in the blood of grapes.

Revelation 5:4-5 | Then I began to weep bitterly because no one was found worthy to open the scroll and read it. But one of the twenty-four elders said to me, “Stop weeping! Look, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the heir to David’s throne, has won the victory. He is worthy to open the scroll and its seven seals.”

  1. Who were Judah’s brothers? Read Genesis 37 if you aren’t sure!
  2. How does Judah save Joseph’s life? See Genesis 37:26-28.
  3. What does it mean that the scepter won’t depart from Judah? Who would normally have a scepter?
  4. What name is Jesus given in Revelation 5:5?
  5. When will all the nations honor Jesus, like prophesied in Genesis 49?
