PRAYER - YIELD - Pray for Gods will

SCRIPTURE
James 4:8 | Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world.

Proverbs 3:5-6 | Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.

1 John 5:13-15 | I have written this to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know you have eternal life. And we are confident that he hears us whenever we ask for anything that pleases him. And since we know he hears us when we make our requests, we also know that he will give us what we ask for.

James 4:3 | And even when you ask, you do not get it because your motives are all wrong - you want only what will give you pleasure.

Psalm 27:14 | Wait patiently for the LORD. Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the LORD.

DISCUSSION
  1. According to 1 John 5:14, we know God hears us when we ask for things that please Him. What kinds of things please God?
  2. Are your prayers usually things that please God or things that please yourself?
  3. Can you think of a time you prayed for something that did not happen? Why do you think that was?
  4. Why can we not trust our own understanding or our own view of what is best for our lives? How can you know what God thinks is best for you to do?
  5. How often do you go to God in prayer, looking for His directions over what you say or do, where you go, or who you are? (Is your answer in line with Jesus as Lord of your life)?
  6. Sometimes, God asks us to wait. How will you remember to trust Gods timing, even when it is not the same as your own?
