BIBLE - The Bible is forever

At this point, the first steps of a Jesus follower are clear.
  • First, you must realize your need for Christ as Savior because of the spiritual darkness and death you deserve for your sin.
  • Second, realizing forgiveness is available because of Gods grace and mercy, and not because of anything you have done, you cry out to Him for forgiveness and salvation.
  • Next, as you commit to your allegiance to Jesus, not just as Savior but as Lord (the Master or Boss of your life), you then follow Him in baptism, proclaiming publicly to all who know you that you no longer live for yourself or as a slave to sin, but rather, your life is the Lords. You literally and figuratively take the plunge to be all-in.
But then what?
  • How do you grow as a Christ follower?
  • What stops you from just going back to who you were before you proclaimed your allegiance to Christ?
  • Where do you go from here?
Maybe you made the choice to follow Jesus and got baptized long ago, but nothing else really changed. Maybe you wonder why it is still so hard to do what is right and live like a Christ-follower should. What needs to change?

Now it is time to BE A DOER. James 1:22 said, But do not just listen to Gods word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves.

The first step to being a doer is Gods Word. It is digging into the Bible to know what it says, who Jesus is, and how you should live. But it is not just about knowing it; it is about putting it into practice.

What is the Bible? How does it work? Why is important for you? How do you use it?

Dig in with us this week to find out!
SCRIPTURE
Matthew 4:4 | But Jesus told him, No! The Scriptures say, People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.

Isaiah 40:6-8 | A voice said, Shout! I asked, What should I shout? Shout that people are like the grass. Their beauty fades as quickly as the flowers in a field. The grass withers and the flowers fade beneath the breath of the LORD. And so it is with people. The grass withers and the flowers fade, but the word of our God stands forever.

Luke 21:33 | Heaven and earth will disappear, but my words will never disappear.

Proverbs 30:5 | Every word of God proves true. He is a shield to all who come to him for protection.

James 1:22 | But don’t just listen to Gods word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves.

DISCUSSION
  1. Do you believe the Bible is true? Why or why not? How do you know?
  2. What does it mean that Gods Word will stand forever? (Think about what this means for the past, present, and future).
  3. What are some things the world listens to that do not stand (are not true) forever?
  4. Read Proverbs 30:5a. What from the Bible has already been proven true in your life? What parts of scripture are you 100% certain of?
  5. Of the Biblical truths you are certain of, in what ways are you a doer of them - someone who lives them out?
