BAPTISM - What is it?

The foundation of a Doer is non-negotiably the gospel. When a person puts their faith in Jesus, it begins to show in their actions (works). The transformation of their habits and actions can take time, but according to Gods Word, at the moment of salvation, the sinner is transformed into a new creation. While this change is internal- happening spiritually in the heart of the believer - Scripture outlines an external step of obedience for new believers that publicly acknowledges the life changing work of the Gospel. That step is baptism. Who should get baptized? When? And what does it represent? Let us dive into Gods Word and find out!

Acts 22:16 | What are you waiting for? Get up and be baptized. Have your sins washed away by calling on the name of the Lord.

Matthew 28:19-20 | 19 Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. 20 Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.

Luke 3:3 | 3 Then John went from place to place on both sides of the Jordan River, preaching that people should be baptized to show that they had repented of their sins and turned to God to be forgiven.

  2. What does baptism show to others?
  3. Does baptism save someone? Why or why not?
  4. Have you been baptized? If so, when? If not, why?
  5. Why do you think baptism is included as part of the Great Commission— Gods command to make disciples and to teach them to follow Jesus?
